Battle for Wesnoth for MAC

Free, open-source fantasy strategy game for Mac: turn-based tactical battles, story campaigns, multiplayer and a map editor.

Battle for Wesnoth Overview

The Battle for Wesnoth is an open-source, turn-based tactical strategy game with a high fantasy theme. You can play it alone or in online and local multiplayer. Its campaigns each have their own tactical challenges, story and several difficulty levels, and its world is told through hundreds of sprites, animations and characters. Factions have many different unit skills and traits, so choosing and using your units is at the centre of each battle.

The game is free under the GPL-2.0 licence and is made by The Battle for Wesnoth Project. It is highly moddable: the community makes map packs, eras and entire campaigns, and the built-in map editor lets you create and share your own scenarios. Version 1.18.8, on the stable branch that the project recommends for most players, is a small update with new translations. The macOS download needs macOS 10.12 or later and is a large disk image of about 481 MB. A development branch is offered separately for players who want to try what is coming, with macOS 10.13 or later. The project also lists the game on Steam, itch.io and the Mac App Store.
